Short Description of Instrument |
The CNS-BFS, a self report scale, is designed to evaluate and monitor bulbar function in ALS patients. It includes three domains: speech, swallowing and salivation. It was validated using an online patient social network. The nine item scale exhibits strong internal reliability and exhibits high sensitivity and specificity.
|
Scoring |
Each domain is interrogated with three questions which the subject scores from 1-5, resulting in a range of scores from 9-45. A score of 21 identifies 90% of subjects with bulbar dysfunction at a specificity of .97.
